It was our greatest victory. Winning one of the three biggest races in the USA! That meant much more than just a victory.
Developing production engine tech to win
The Ligier JS P2 Honda was an LMP2 sports prototype which enjoyed strong success in 2016, where the #60 Michael Shank Racing entry competed with distinction in IMSA under Honda power.
During that 2016 season, the #60 entry (chassis 12) won at Laguna Seca and Petit Le Mans, the final race of the IMSA season, at the hands of John Pew and Ozz Negri Jr, joined by Olivier Pla in that season-finale 10-hour endurance at Road Atlanta. The trio also secured third place at the Watkins Glen 6 Hours.
The victory at Road Atlanta was made even more special because of a number of milestones: It was MSR’s 250th and last start for several years in the prototype category, it was the swansong of the Daytona Prototypes, and it was the final race in the United States for the Ligier JS P2.
This Ligier JS P2 uses the production-based 2.8-liter Honda HR28TT V6 engine, developed for competition by HPD from the Honda "J35" series of passenger vehicle V6 engines, with improvements including twin-turbocharged induction. Key production-based components include the block and cylinder heads, direct-injection fuel system, valve train components, drive-by-wire throttle, alternator, sensors and fasteners. The engine even utilizes a stock Honda oil filter.
This chassis has been restored to its former glory and is now eligible to compete in multiple historic racing series including Masters Historic Racing (Endurance Legends 1) and the new-for-2026 ACO/Peter Auto Legends of Le Mans series.
